Yes, unfortunately it's true.
The second time it's been on a trailer in a month just pushed my long suffering wife over the edge.
"SELL THE GODDAMN THING" was the first thing out of her mouth when she came to my rescue yesterday evening. "What is it this time?" she asks.
"The starter motor just died" was my reply.
"Well, you promised after the last time I picked you up if anything else died and left you stranded, you'd sell it. And we can't afford any more repairs. You've already spent eight fu**ing grand on that bike...when will it end? How much will a new starter cost?"

....you get the idea...right?
And all this anxiety while out riding of wondering when it'll sputter to a stop, or not start again to take me home, is ruining the whole experience of being back on a bike again.
I might go buy a Honda :-P

To recoup my costs (doubtful) I will have to part her out. I will try over the next month to sell her complete but if I have no luck I will have to separate. I thought I would offer the parts to you guys first as you have all been so great and have made the Paso ownership experience last as long as it did

You seriously want to part out or sell a bike because of something you can fix for 20GBP ?
http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/acatalog/SMBK175.html

If you remove the brush plate and take it to an auto repair store they can probably replace the brushes for less than that.
You`ll have to fix that to sell the bike anyway.

This wear is totally normal and don`t think the identical things couldn`t happen if you buy another used bike. This being a reason to get rid of the bike is silly, while I understand your wifes point.
Rather put the Paso in the garage, invite her out, let things calm down and then fix it (and get an AAC membership)
If you sell the bike you`ll lose money and if you sell it in bits probably even more as you may get rid of the "good" parts and the rest will be laying around for years until you`ll decide to give them away.

I`d reconsider it.

G.

Mate, I hear you.

I just purchased a brush plate, oil pressure sender (saw you had some fun with that!) and a gasket in a tube for the alternator cover for $100. Give Neil a call at Melbourne Ducati. He's pretty good and posts things out quick smart.

I agree with G. Prop the 906 up in the shed, take the lady of the house out to dinner (Freo has a good memories. A nice little Thai place, the name escapes me). If all else fails, there is always a Pearl from Broome! I haven't heard any bloke miss on that one!

I plan to take the Brush plate to the local Auto elec once I get the old one out and replace the brushes. It was going into the parts crate after that. If you can wait a bit (time does seem to disappear on me these days?), its your's.

Take it easy.

Cheers.

Nick.

I hear what you're saying guys and I appreciate your input and your opinion.
But what's next? Coils? Stator? ECU? Ignition switch? Sprag clutch? Bottom end bearing? Core plugs leaking? Waterpump bearing? Head O rings?
This bike was not cared for in its past like it should so it could be any one of these and a million more. I know I have to expect this with an older bike and I should have thought more practically before making the decision to buy in the first place. I really enjoy riding as I haven't had a bike for a long time. I enjoy fixing much less. Mechanics don't like Paso's so that leaves me little choice. Id much rather be out on the road than in my garage. unlike most of you, i dont have a second bike to ride when the Paso's in bits. When I bought the bike it was a prime candidate for parting out as it needed so much work. I thought I could give it a service with belts and fluids and tyres and a few hoses etc., and ride it and not care if it got left in the rain or dinged in the car park. But the more I opened it up, the more worms came out.
I will try to sell as a whole first as I don't want the hassle of parting out and thanks for the tips re brushes.
Trust me, this was not a happy decision.

Well, what else could go wrong if you have had so much repairs. Half of the bike will be new again. . . .

The bragging of the wife is a role she has as your wife so don't take it too serious, just bow your head and mumble a bit . . . yea, yea. . . . AND CONTINUE!

Mmmmm, I'm devorced, must have done something wrong I guess. Advantage, I can park the bike in the living room during winter season.

Put the bike up for sale in the local papers, and ask for what you have invested. If, as you say, it is more than it is worth, then it might take you a long time selling it. That way you can ride it for another year, at least. Or, you get lucky and get all your money out of it. We all thank you because you helped drive up the price of Paso's. Win Win.

Cheers,
Phil

Next time she starts the "sell the bike " noises .... accidently on purpose ,let her find your list of possible replacements ..... like a wing suit, or a boat , or a racehorse
