Hi all,

Ok this is a stupid question and a repost of an old topic BUT I've looked in the owners manual, searched and read the topic above and still ain't sure.

Every other Duc I've had has two lines next to the sight glass for the min and max oil level. Like PHOTO 1. But my 906 Paso (and others apparently) has a little sticker that fits perfectly between these two lines that shows the max level as at the lower of the two lines cast on the side case. Like PHOTO 2.

PHOTO 1

PHOTO2

Probably like everyone else with a 906, I keep the level between the two lines cast on the side case and ignore the sticker.

But it's bugging me....probably cause my front cylinder has a persistant oil leak that a strip down and oring replacement has failed to fix. Hmmmmm...

And yes I know the level is a little low - is down for maintenance :)

Anyone? Thoughts?

Cheers,

Mick

Don't have the documentation to prove it but my guess would be they are both max levels. One cold and one hot.

Higgy,

That makes sense I think - although I still wonder why they went to the trouble of making a new sticker for that. First water cooled model I suppose.

It's a bit redundant having a max hot level though isn't it ? what do you do if when you fire it up the hot level is above the sticker line :)

I wonder if these stickers/decals are on the 907's as well?

I suppose I'll continue filling to the mid way between the cast lines on the side case and ignoring the sticker as always - anyone else do different?

Cheers,

Mick

If you fill it up to the top mark and put the bike on the side stand it will probably be at the lower  just kidding

I assume your 907 to be a Euro model?

Higgy - I wasn't aware of this hot/cold thing (being a young-un). Thanks! I like the three line, no sticker twist......

Tamburinifan - sorry mate, I hadn't noticed you had a 907!

G - is that with 16inch wheels and a 906 stand, 17inch wheels and 906 stand or 17 inch wheels and a 907 stand :)

Cheers,

Mick

On my 907s there's the same sticker with the lower oil level.
Could an extra oil filling break something so that there's an oil leak????
Ciao

Too much oil can blow crank seals, cause hard shifting and in extreme cases break a piston. If I had an issue with repeated oil leaks between cylinder and head mating surfaces and can't find any other source or reason, I would have to suspect an oil pump issue as in a faulty bypass spring or some sort of odd restriction in an oil passage.

If the Oil is filled over the top line then Oil can leak out of the filler cap making it look like the oil window is weeping. Anyway, try 3 litres of Oil not 3.5 litres if you think there is too much.

P.S. if there is a persistant leak after rebuilding the engine then you should use Tri-Bond between gaskets, available from Ducati.
