I'm considering a 1987 750 Paso that's for sale locally, under 20,000 miles. I've spoken by phone a couple of times with the owner, and I will try to see it, maybe Saturday. He says it is currently registered and in use (well, til it turned cold lately). Has new sprockets and chain, and recent paint (Ducati red that he says is excellent). Sounds like the graphics are not exact for the 750, and it is all red, no black on the lowers. I asked if it had ever thrown a chain or had case damage -- no. He says it has new Michelin tires that he had to wait 4 months to get via a Duc dealer. It has a Weber with a pressure regulator -- is that a good set up? I've owned two 907s so have some idea of what to look for. He says that the previous owner replaced the timing belts (he's a little vague on this, like five years ago, so belts would be in order). Any specific areas that I should inspect closely on the 750?

Thanks for any ideas. Price now is $2000 USD, down from $2500 that he was asking a month ago (and the snow is arriving every other day now). Sounds like a motivated seller, he got it for his wife who doesn't want to ride any more.

I think you should have a look at that: $2000 is quite a low price!
Remember that tires and fairings are hard to replace, while all other parts are available on the net.
Anyway, belts, carb balancing and a periodical maintenance are to be done after such a long rest!

Sounds like a good to great deal on a running Paso.

Check the chain to make sure it not too tight. Inspect the output shaft for side to side looseness, indicating a bad bearing. Don't ask me how I know....

Electrics, electrics, electrics. Look for melted or burned wires under the seat.

Look for the valuable upgrades: Euro tail light, aftermarket mufflers, etc...

The Weber can be made to run "ok" and the regulator is a BIG step in the right direction.

On the exhaust, he says it's a factory 2-into-1. Was that a stand-alone option, part of a kit, or does it indicate a special Paso model?

Now I just need to find 5 or 6 hours in between snow and ice storms!

Cio Ca Moto suplied such aftermarket exhaust systems for some Ducati modells (also maybe to Paso), but direct from factory shouldnt come any 2-1 systems fitted to Paso.

Buying a Paso is much better than buying stocks lately....

I think that *exceptional* examples of 750s will someday have *some* investment value, but never the crazy prices like 750F1s or 851/888s. Only time will tell.

Kurt- If the Paso you are considering is in Chepachet RI, I am familiar with it, as I bought a blue one that he had for sale. the guy takes very good care of his bikes, and although it has had some paint work, it is mint! I would consider it a real bargain for $2000. Mike
