Friends:

In most cases of swapping the Weber carb for another kind would involve discarding the airbox and substituting pod filters of some sort.

In this case, one would have to reroute the crankcase ventilation, which on the unmodified Paso is routed through a plastic box near the battery and then back to the carb via the airbox.

Can people provide examples/advice on how to properly route the crankcase ventilation? I have heard of using a filter, but what kind, and how was this done?

I have standard weber on both my pasos, but I've seen a pic with the solution you hint at... They did it with a small air filter placed at the end of the oem rubber pipe. The filter was looking like the ones they use on tuned scooters:

I would leave the plastic container in the crankcase breather line also if you remove the airbox. There were posts from different guys telling they would find oil on the engine or swingarm coming from the crankcase breather tube. Keeping the box could prevent that.

No need to feed that breather pipe back to any inlet system. Much more simple to feed it only "outside" somewhere, but NOT direct to backwheel....There is normally coming nothing from that pipe, so; why to feed it back to inlet systrem... If You want to live "safe life", You can make again one canister to where You lead that breathing pipe, but its not necessary at all.... I have feed it to close chain guard and tieghted with banduit wrap to between chain guard and swingarm... No anykind of problems!

BUT, IF You want to "wheel" with front wheel very high, then its better to use some canister,,, i case of something happen inside engine cases to oil ....
