Hi guys i read on another section that you are interested in mounting a steering damper on our babies.....
i finish today to mount it ,don't lok on the rest of the bike it'so dirty ....cause i'm in the middl of various modification

I`m wondering, the mounting in the middle moves side to side or is it fix ?!
If I`m not thinking wrong and mounting is fix the damper will break sooner or later as the axle doesn`t move centered in and out.

i mount the damper very similar to aprilia tuono....

Have a closer look at the top photo. The damper is fixed by a substantial vertical bracket in 2 places, not just at the bottom. Should be good.

sorry, can`t find the right words to explain properly what I mean.
See this pic. At the mounting point of the damper and also at the end of the axle there`s a joint. The one at the housing will allow the damper to move when it`s mounted. It is mounted laying, not standing as shown.


Now imagine the damper mounted as it is shown (standing). Fix the damper in the middle so it cannot move and the end to the fork leg which will go back and forth. That will not work for long. The damper should be allowed to move when steering. On Piero`s bike it seems to be mounted fix.

Am I thinking wrong ?

i have two joint in the mounting holes they are coverd by screw but they are there.....
i hope i understand....

Gerhard I'm pretty sure is referring to how the Pivot (Gelenk) is mounted to the frame. It looks like it will have to bend to make the full range of motion with the forks.

I know this is the 750 forum...but my 907 (with similar steering geometry) is nearly the heaviest steering I have come across - except the XS1100 yam.

do you find the 750 is "skittish"? or just looking for

I guess the damper will work OK and I can see the spherical mount in the Ohlins piccie that explains the pivot. The best test for the damper set up is if you get full travel on the stroke from lock to lock - if the damper stroke actuation is too short they are not fully effective.

there are 2 spherical bearings on the damper
there is one on the "right hand end" (eye at the rod end)
there is one at the bottom of the unit - on the lower part of the clamp

these - in combination - will permit a degree of flexibility (say 5 degrees each)
they must be correctly set up so the bearing can pivot in the radius area - if not the unit will bind - as you've described

it's one of those things you'd have to see and try to confirm the set up...
I guess the stroke is the most important issue to me.

The end of the shaft has a "spherical" joint that will allow some movement. The "body" also has a shperical joint at the pivot point to allow for some movement. I wonder if it is enough for a full range of motion. Ducapiero, can you take a picture of the damper with the steering turned full left and full right?

The body of the damper is usuall (normally) mounted so that the pivot joint is in the horizontal plane with the bolt coming from the top. Like this:

If the damper would be mounted as in your pic Jon, I`d say its fine, but mounting the damper standing instead of laying limits the movement to the possible swivel of the joint and that I don`t think is enough for full steer, but as Laddie907 said one should really be there and try.

The full steering is guaranted this evening i post photo of that,but i noticed that parking movement became more heavy than before....i don't make a road test because the weather is not so good in this period
