Post subject: | Tachometer/Rev Counter: Electronic or Mechanical? |
Greetings. The tach/rev counter on my '91 907 quit working. An earlier thread talked about a "Proximity Switch", part #55240051A, but my parts catalog shows a cable and "rev counter gears", part #066792160, which looks very much like the mechanical tachometer that has been on every bike I've owned, going back 30 years. Is the tach/rev counter an electronic device, a mechanical device, or a combination of the two? Thanks, Tim |

it`s purely mechanical. The switch you`re referring to is part of the ignition system. G. |

Have you tried to check the cable? They are prone to fail. Ciao |

Mine quit the week before last. The cable was broken about 1 inch below the tach fitting. I re-routed it as so not to have it bent where it connects to the tach. Preston |
