Post subject: | Cylinder base gasket question |
Hi. I am just abaout to start reassembly om my engine an have a couple of questiones aobut the cylinder base gaskets. I got one with a thickness of 0,3mm and the other one is 0,4mm. From the parts catalogue it seems like the 0,4mm gasket is for the horisontal and the 0,3mm is for the vertical cylinder, can anyone confirm this? Also I found that in addition to the gaskets there has previously been used gasket sealer, is ths recommended? I would think that this shuldnt be required as the casket is made of either aluminum or annealed copper but would like to get this confirmed. If sealer should be used, what kind of sealer would you recommend? Thanks. Håvard |

Håvard The sealer to use is called 3-Bond from Ducati or the exact same product is called Yama-Bond at a local Yamaha shop. Apply a very tin coating to each side of the gasket. You don't want it getting into any of the oil holes and clogging something up. As for the proper base gasket, I meaure the squish and then get the proper gasket thickness. See the explanation here: Scroll down halfway to see how to measure the squish. I love that technical term! http://www.ducatitech.com/2v/maint/rebu ... dwork.html Instead of wax you can use a very thin very soft solder as well. Good luck! |

I'm not sure about the thickness. However, by part number 78610031A is the vertical cylinder and 78610041A is the front cylinder. Notice that they are two different part numbers. When I did mine I didn't use any sealant as they are metal "spacers" and not gaskets |
