anyone looking for starter brushes check this out https://www.ebay.com/itm/Starter-Rebuil ... md&vxp=mtr exactly the same as the Ducati one . There are brushes by them selves. I have just got two for my quad bike and after a quick look I put the brush plate beside a genuine ducati one and cant see the diff. |

That's a great find there Hamish as it includes all the bearings bushes and o-rings as well as the brushes and backplate. Unfortunately it's in the US and by the time it gets here, it will have collected another £4.20 or so in duty + another £12 in admin fees, increasing the cost by about 150%. Still cheap I suppose. I can maybe find a UK supplier though. |

I actually got this one ( 2 )Its in China and 2 of them inc freight cost me us$18.98 https://www.ebay.com/itm/-/182493648119 ... n_NZ(en_AE)&cnac=NZ&mail=sys&e=op&unp_tpcid=email-receipt-auction-payment&ppid=PPX000608&calf=2d8d55e5d6600&calc=2d8d55e5d6600&pgrp=main:email&unptid=88a5a4a0-d58c-11e7-a401-441ea14e9560&mchn=em&t=&s=ci&page=main:email&cal=2d8d55e5d6600&cust=0P587438NL415322R. The kit from the states , all up is still less than 1/2 the price of the Ducati brush plate alone |

I was told the starter motor in my 84' MHR was the same as a Suzuki GN 450 and that kit looks suspiciously like the same set up. Anyone know for sure?. |

I've seen a few MHRs but never one with an electric start! |

I think this starter is used in a lot of bikes , some have different mounts ( like the Ducati ) but the innards are the same , apparently fits a few kwaka's too Maybe Andrew's Mhr has had a starter retro fitted . Would be a must for me as I cant even kick over my RD400 ( use the hand ...........which probly wouldn't work on a bevel Duke ![]() |

Mine's definitively got an electric start. 1984 model 900's and later Mille's came out with the electric starter. I bought my MHR new in '84 from the importer Fraser M/Cs so no retro fitting of the starter motor. They all had them. The one thing I did retro fit was a kick starter because the starter motor was so useless. Apparently Ian Gowanloch was selling some MHR's at the time that he put together out of bits and pieces but mine is definitively factory spec. The bike in the photos is a Mille but the specs are the 900. http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/ ... r%2083.htm Cheers Andrew |

I knew the Mille had an electric start and while not doubting that your MHR does Andrew, I just checked in my Ducati books (Mick Walker & Ian Falloon) and see that the starter was only fitted for 1984, the last year of the MHR. Something that I must have known and long since forgotten. It is brilliant that you've had the bike since new, you will know every detail of its history. |

Yes, i went to a lot of places on the old girl when I was a bit more flexible ![]() I have heard that the electric start 900 MHR's weren't introduced into the UK but not sure if that was just a rumor or not. Ducati was on shakey ground back then so they did some funny things. I just bought a new book that you may be interested in Derek. It's from England so free delivery in Britain. I just noticed I had 2 photos the same but have added another now. Cheers Andrew |

It's not cheap especially with the shipping to Australia. All these types of books seem to be pricey. It was a Christmas present from the family along with a bike lift. |
