Only interesting for german driver / an alle Paso 750/906-Fahrer in Deutschland...

wws (we will see)...

Hey Vee2duc,does this mean that the metzelers fit p750's with no modifications to sprockets ,swingarm etc ??.How will the '80' part of the 150/80/16 effect the paso's performance ? I understand that the tyre is 10mm less in width than standard 160/60/16 will the radius of the tyre grow by 20mm,if so this must put it very close to the swingarm?
The reason I ask is that I have purchased a paso 750 with no wheels  and wanting to keep it original I have purchased a set of oscam 16" rims but have no tyres ,so I don't have anything to compare the various clearances (tyre to chain, tyre to swingarm on outer circumference ,and side wall etc.etc) and I don't really want to buy a set of tyres that wont fit !
Ideas anyone? Rgds Jay.

Hey Jay,
at the moment i don´t know about any modification of the swingarm or chainwheel.
Gerhard (paso750) send me an email where he also wonders about any customizing of swingarm or chaindrive.
I´ve send him the official info of Ducati Germany as pdf. There you must assure the free driving of the tyre with maybe a longer chain.

I have just fitted Dunlop 180/60/16 and intend to fit 130/70/16. The rear tyre is a much easier fit than the 150/80/16 which requires the swing arm modified for clearance.

You will have to move the chain over to clear the 180/60/16. My front sprocket was offset in by 5mm. By removing it and turning it over I got the 10mm offset required. The retaining plate holes were tapped right through so there was no machining. The sprocket cover was refitted and there is plenty of clearance.

The rear sprocket will have to be offset the same amount ofcourse. I bored the centre of the sprocket oversize by 4mm (diameter) and made a 10mm thick spacer with the original hole size (90mm) and a spigot that protrudes and locates in the sprocket. Do not just space out with washers or a plate as there will be no location for the sprocket and it will come loose. 10mm offset is the maximum you can achieve due to sprocket/swing arm clearance.

I fitted 10mm longer cap bolts to fit the sprocket but the heads hit the swing arm. To overcome this I deepened the recesses in the sprocket by 3mm, machined 1mm off the back of the screw heads, and another 1mm off the tops. They are now flush with the face of the sprocket.

I also moved the chain guide on the swing arm.

All this machining I did myself as that is my trade. If you have to have this work done, any machine shop with a lathe and mill will be capable. Cost should not be high as the work is simple - and I have worked out what needs to be done!

Front mudguard will need to be spaced up for 130/70/16. I can give measurements for this but suspect this may vary from bike to bike.

I have photos of the machining required but am not clever enough to post them. They are in photobucket if anyone else would like to put them on this thread.

I checked the alignment by eye before I started, and it was in line (with the front sprocket offset inwards). After the mods I again checked by eye and it looks right. The spigot on my rear sprocket carrier was only 9mm so even an 8mm spacer on my bike would not have left enough spigot.

Post subject:  Re: 16" Tyres > News for Germany...

hi everyone,

i am also not convinced that the fit of the 150/80 16 will be an easy thing - still it is good to see that Ducato Germany at least try to do something.

I do like the Dunlop version of Colonial Boy. However, I have some questions:

1) The Dunlop 180/60 16 is a tire for a bikes like Harleys or Honda Gold Wing. How is the handling, is this somehow save?

2) Colonial Boy, is there a regular technical check required in your country by the authorities? We have that here and I have doubts that they will accept clearence of about 3 mm between chain and tire.

39 I think the dunlop (and shrinko) is easier to fit compared to the Avon 180/60 16. It seems to be that it is a little bit more narrow. Am I right?

Thanks a lot, Hardo

Post subject:  Re: 16" Tyres > News for Germany...

Hello everyone, I am a new 750 paso owner. I would like to know if anyone has fit the dunlop 170/70 ZR16 to the rear wheel. it seems that would be a fit with the amount of clearance available to the chain and to the swing arm. Bridgestone also makes a tire in this size for the rear, but it is a bias ply. I have asked the same question on the 750 Paso board with little success. Thank you all for your help and for this excellent forum. Best, Randy.
