Post subject: | tires - a neverending story |
hi everyone i know the tire problem is quite a serious problem for all the 906 owners with 16' wheels and the topic has already been discussed in many ways in this forum. i just bought a front wheel michelin (build in 2004) for a hugh amount of money (200 €, still angry considering that it is an old tire). now my point: my local garage had the idea to use 130/70/ZR 16 (160/70/ZR 16) instead. they are easy to get and not too expensive: http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl the local technical authority here in switzerland (they check cars and motorcyles every 2 years for safety reasons) told me they would have not a problem with using this tires, but I need to make sure that the tachometer still shows approx. the right speed (they check it by running 50 km per hour). On a first sight this might solve the problem, am i wrong? Has anyone an idea if this could be a way to move on with the paso as long as the 130/60/ZR16 (160/60/ZR16 respectively) are not available on the market? Thanks a lot for your help + keep on riding! Hardo |

The 130/70 will do, but you'll have to raise the fender about 6mm: be careful, an excessive raising will make it scratch against the side panels! Have a nice work, and... |

Hardo, Your speed should be accurate using the 130/70 tyre. I have done that for years and tested the speed over time and distance and it is perfect. It is frustrating to ride with friends when they have an inaccurate speedometer and they are falling back as they are trying to stay under the speed limit. I have researched the different tyre companies but could never find a rear 160/70 - 16. Let us know if you can find them and what brand. |
