Going racing this weekend, bike's been sitting since mid November. Cool day in Christchurch and those who know, FCRs have no choke - this is what it takes to get her started. Best carbs in the world; once you hear that exhaust note; can't wait for Saturday! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5XFEzom ... e=youtu.be http://youtu.be/H5XFEzomzMI http://youtu.be/H5XFEzomzMI |

Gotta love those Carbs, mine has the idle wound on 1/2 a turn, 5 pumps of the throttle and this if it hasn't been started for awhile ![]() ![]() ![]() And good luck this weekend, in the immortal words of Robbie Phillis, "Give it heaps"

I have the same issue with my Special SS I did notice tho that by flicking the throttle you dont give enough time to the Accelerator pump to spray fuel in the throats , instead of flicking it open the throttle and keep it open for few seconds, the longer and the more fuel will go down. If you take off the Airbox (if you have one) or look down the carbs you will see the jets spraying when you open the throttle. In any case, cold starts are always a pain and the most important thing is to have a very strong battery (or an auxiliary one!), this helps with the longevity of the sprag clutch |

Thanks Angelix, good point about the pumps when twisting the throttle. I don't mind the routine though. reminds me of watching F1 cars from the 70's starting up in the pits when I was a kid. of course once it's been run, it starts in an absolute instant. Turned out to be a good weekend. Always nice when I manage to beat 4 cylinder Jap 750 from the same era ![]() |

And this my ritual after it's been sitting awhile http://youtu.be/mnYSe-Ruu48 Same thing though starts fine every time after this, until she sits for a more than a week or so. Cheers Peter |
