Can anyone tell me what was done to improve the valve train one year to the next with the gold rocker covers. And is everything interchanable between the two years? Other than the visual differences , seat color, grab handle, triple clamp, and body decals is there any good reason one should wait to find a 1988 model over a 1987? Thanks, |

I think that's when they started fitting a small clip on the opening rocker shaft, that when removed allows the opening rocker to be slid sideways to allow access to the closing rocker and shim . Previously you had to remove the rocker and shaft |

you can also get the parts from an SS/Monster and replace the early setup with them, no problem. As for the second question. The answer is no. |

Maybe at the same time they switched from standard bearings under timing belts to special part w/ bearings inside |
