i have been reading about regulator wireing & coil rewireing. i am a little confused? i put in the new igntion box bike no longer dies when it warms up and starts better. but have noticed that the longer i ride battery slowley is going down. the alternator/stator one lead goes directly to the vertical coil ? are they feeding the coils direct and feeding back to the regulator after? in the rewireing of the coils the install of the relay & fuse makes sence it should provide full battery voltage to the coils. i used an avr to try to test charging amps seemed low under 18A at 3500rpm & only about 4 at an idle. are the two problems connected and does anyone have testing procedures for stator & regulator |

As Jon says clean clean clean those connections . Also worth checking out is the earth cable from the battery to the frame/engine. Mine had a bad join where the terminal was crimped onto the cable right at the battery and I bought a new battery and starter motor brushes that I didnt need before I twigged ( actually some body told me almost exactly where to look ). When starting became sluggish I blamed the battery and used jumper leads to start it off another battery so I bought the new battery ..... no better .... new brushes ... no better , but every time I jump started it ... no problems , starter wound over great. I had been connecting the earth jumper lead to the footpeg bracket ...... thus unwittingly bypassing the faulty earth lead..... ho hum ![]() |

Well, Crappy electrics is a bit further than I would go but it does get the point across. After all we are not talking Lucas electrics ![]() ![]() The place to start is cleaning every single connection, just the same as you would do on any project that starts out being 20 years or more since leaving the factory. It is not a hard thing to do,but it will take some time to accomplish. Time well spent and well worth the effort. Cleaning every single connection and removing any corrosion will go a long way to making you realize just exactly how much you are going to enjoy one of these bikes. You will find everything you need here to make your ownership of one of the rarest machines on the planet well worth whatever you spend and make no mistake, If you do spend the time and keep your money you will find one of the very best roads two wheels can offer ![]() ![]() ![]() |
