Post subject: | New Paso Owner |
Hello all. Just picked up an 87 Paso. Last time I had a Duc was almost 10 years ago. Wasn't really looking for one but I came across a non runner for little $ . Couple "odd "things about the motor. It has the 40 mm Del Orto's on it and Carbon cans but it is a wet clutch motor with twin plug heads. Does anyone know what I have? I thought it might be a newer M750 but it has the older cam covers and what appears to be 20 years of grime. Belts look fine, but they will be changed. Cases are black as well as the cylinder heads but the rest of the motor is unpainted. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thank you. |

Welcome on board. Dell'Ortos carbs were fitted quite often on Pasos instead of stock Weber. Put some pics, so we can tell you more about. Ciao |

Welcome Ike! A Paso with mods, mmmm...there's something you don't see every day! ![]() People have tried to shoehorn all sorts of engines in the Paso frame (Desmo_Demon, what happened to the MegaPaso?). Enjoy the forum. Mike |

I spoke to a reliable source and was told all 750 Pasos that came to Canada were a wet clutch motor. The speedo is also in kmh . The twin plug is definately a mod but same source said it was a period conversion. No odd spacers at mounting locations ,etc . Looks completely factory. can anyone else support this? I'll get some pics up soon. |

That info is incorrect. I wonder how your timing setup is as not changing it with a dual spark plug conversion can cause engine damage. G. |

Can't tell you about the timing but when I line up all my timing marks, everything is as it should be. My source with regards to the motor come straight from Ducati North America. If anyone else on this forum from Canada can shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

I quess, that original engine have blown and this Your engine have been rebuild from 2 different engines. Its easy to put older model cam covers to it. And this is FIRST time, as someone say, that Paso 750 have wet clutch. I never belive that such engine is coming from factory. If factory had made many such to markets, here should surely someone known about such "wet clutch 750 Paso negine". Its possible to put 750cc wet clutch Supersport(90's) engine to Paso frame with some spacers. Anyway Paso 750 engine have better cams compared to 750 Supersport engine, so its not so bad idea to adopt parts from 2 different engines and make one good... ![]() That 2 spark system is easier to make to air/oil cooled 750cc(or 900SS) compared to water cooleed engines (906,907IE,ST, etc), as heads are different and water cooleed heads have those water lines .... ![]() |

Sorry, i did small mistake, 1994-1996 750 Monster have same cams, as 750 Paso. I mixed little those 900 cams, my mistake. 1999-> 750 Supersport(injected) have different cams. |

I'll take some pics tonite and get them up. Dual plug setup doesn't look like anything too fancy. Looks like a stock wiring harnes but the coils have two leads instead of one. Two coils with two leads on each. Plugs are under the cam covers. Thanks for the input on the motor. Looking forward to getting it running. Speaking of CDI,s that is why it's not running. Ive only got spark to front cylinder . When I switch CDI's it changes so it sparks only on rear cylinder. New CDI on order as well as cam belts, etc. |

No Paso's were wet clutch from the factory. Why do you think it has a wet clutch? Can you give us all a picture? I know for sure that No one at DNA knows anything about a Paso. Someone may own one (which I doubt) but their knowledge is less than zero. The Indiana was a dry clutch as well. I have one. I don't have an elefant but know someone who does and I'm 99% sure that is also a dry clutch. I will ask. Send us some pics! |
