I've had the rear wheel off the Paso to measure up the rear brake caliper and disc. It appears that the disc mount isn't the proper part and mounts the rotor disc too far to one side. This caused the bolts that the mount the rotor to cut into the caliper mounting bracket and ripped it up pretty bad. This pic shows just how far off the disc is. The split in the caliper should be right in the center of the disc. I have a new caliper mount and just need to have the disc mount machined down to the proper dimension. |

This was probably just done out of ignorance by the installer a long time ago. They are Technomagnesio magnesium wheels and the wrong adaptor was installed to hold the brake disc. The wheel, tire and disc weights 25 lbs. BTW I didn't do the install. I bough the bike this way. |

I wonder that that wasn`t noticed before. When the rear was jacked up one should`ve noticed immedeately that the wheel didn`t turn unless it did at the beginning and somehow slowly moved to the right. |

I've had the disc mount machined down so that the bolts heads will no longer hit the caliper bracket. It's interesting just how close certain things run. The caliper to bolt head clearance is really small but when correct, quite safe. All that we removed was 2mm from the flange face by a local machine shop that does really superior work. These 2 pics show where and how much was removed. The 6 tabs were black before machining. I chose to remove the 2mm from the outer ring since the material was thicker than the smaller mount. Once it's installed, I'll shoot some more pictures to show the fit. |

I have installed the machined rear disc mount and it fits much better. The rotor is in the right spot and the clearance between the rotor bolts and the caliper bracket is about 2.5mm. Before After Now to get on to the other tasks at hand! |

No repair update today but I'm pissed at myself. I drained some oil from one of the cars and set it onto the side of the stand that the Paso is up on. I was being lazy and didn't pour the oil into the storage container. I then backed the tractor into the barn and hit the edge of the pan and knocked it off the stand. I didn't notice so I had 4 quarts of shitty old oil sitting on my new concrete floor for week!! ![]() The battery is toast by the way. 4 hours on the charger and 3.6 volts. Damn. :-/ |
