As far as the exterior, It was starting to pit and slightly rust. I sand blasted the slip on's and had them powder coated by a friend. He used a coat that was rated for hi temp. Came out beautiful (looks original) and has maintained it's look. |

the finish is called black chrome. I just polish them to get off initial rust and then wipe them down with a rag after spraying some WD40 on it. I do this specially on all weldseams. The oilfilm will burn in and after a few months I will repeat treatment. Worked fine for me on different bikes. G. |

Horse, My mufflers had, in some areas but not all over, very small spots of rust beginning to form. I had success polishing these sposts out with "0000" grade (4 zeroes) steel wool. The steel wool is oil impregnated on so it doesn't rust on the store shelf and that impregnation seems to be just the right amount to coat and lubricate the mufller surface as you scrub away. Try an inconspicuous area first and be prepared to use ALOT of elbow grease. The steel wool also removed a lot of old-age tarnish and really made the mufflers shine. Once finished, I wiped them off with a clean rag and applied a coat of wax. Tom |

I bought a couple of black used 907 mufflers. They have a cylindrical shape, as the last 906 and some 750 I saw somewhere. They were on a shelf for long time and now they are black dull. Do you think it's enough to polish them? Ciao |

Francesco, If the mufflers have the same "black chrome" finish that my 750 has, they should clean up nicely with the 0000 grade steel wool. Try starting someplace you won't easily see first just to make sure the cleaned area looks good to you. If you check out my posting titled "Eye Candy" elsewhere, you'll see how my mufflers look. Many thanks Tom, I remember very well the topic about your nice bike. I think the look of the paint has to be polished and not dull. So, I'll try with the steel wool. Ciao |
