Post subject:  More questions about the Mikuni conversion

Friends:

Help if you can:

1. It looks as if the choke cable and choke adjuster can be made to work with the Mikuni - how did people accomplish this?

2. The crankcase ventilation system will have to be rerouted if the air box is to be discarded and replaced with pod filters. Where/how have people rerouted the crankcase ventilation?

3. Can/should you use the Paso fuel pump with the mikuni? Or should it be gravity/vaccuum fed?

4. Should there be a fuel overflow before the carb, as well as after? Or just route fuel straight to carb and let the float bowls route the overflow to the tank?

1. i used the same cable just looped it through the connection and put a screwed connector on it and then put a return spring on the choke which is a good idea anyway as the choke didnt seem to return to well.
2. i just put a filter on the end of the crankcase breather.
3. i left the fuel pump in place with the loop in place to allow the pressure not to build up.
4. there are two parts which you should get from a ducati dealer one being the balance tubes air box, the other being the overflow bottle.
air box no. 58510101A

Rodney:

What filter did you use on the crankcase breather? An oil filter? What kind?

What other solutions did people come up with?

Friends:

I put the Mikuni's on the Paso and it runs! Woohoo!

I haven't ridden it yet - too much work yet to do, and the weather is crappy. But its already clear that the Weber was seriously ill. The improvement on starting, running and maintaining idle is obvious. Praise the ducati gods!

Question: The manifolds had nipples on them, about 1/2 long and 3/16 in diameter. Clearly they are meant for some kind of hose. They face into the interior of the bike.

Where do these get attached to?

Would it be to the similar nipples on each of the carb bodies? Or are these nipples on the carbs related to the carb heating system that the later monsters had?

If these nipples are connected to each other, are they cross connected (R-L, L-R) or connected on each side (carb L to manifold L)

I've got pictures of these hoses if anyone is interested. I can't seem to figure out how to post them here. Sorry about that.

Thanks for your help! Have a great new year!

Nipples on manifolds from SS/Monster Mikunis are one for
fuelpump and one for petcock. They are not connected to the carbs.
